About Us
Our Mission
Hillside Covenant Church is a multi-generational church in the Parkmead neighborhood of Walnut Creek, where we’ve been part of the community for more than 70 years. We exist to “make mature and equipped disciples who share Christ and serve the world.” The people who walk through our doors and become part of our family are on a journey to become more like Jesus—to discover and fulfill their purpose as people created in the image of God.
We aim to see everything through the lens of Scripture, and our mission grows out of two passages from the New Testament: Matthew 28:18–20 and Ephesians 4:11–13. Together, these passages point us toward becoming mature in our faith and making disciples who are equipped to live it out. We don’t just want you to enjoy the community—we want you to leave equipped to live a full and rewarding life.

Our Council Team
We believe in community-based leadership. Our Leadership Council is made up of members of Hillside who live out our mission of becoming mature and equipped disciples.
Staff and Council are responsible to the congregation, and together they seek God’s will for our community. Council members serve as representatives of the congregation, actively seeking input from Hillside’s church family as they help guide the church forward.

The Story We Live Out
Rooted and Connected
Hillside is a proud member of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), a vibrant global denomination with more than 850 churches in North America and in more than 60 countries worldwide. Founded by Swedish immigrants in 1885, the ECC is rooted in historical Christianity, the Protestant Reformation, and the Pietist movement.
We are united by a shared commitment to the authority of Scripture, personal faith in Jesus Christ, and a passion for God’s work in the world. The Covenant embraces diversity in non-essential beliefs, centering ourselves around six affirmations. Together, we champion a holistic mission rooted in mutuality—combining evangelism, justice, compassion, and furthering God’s mission in our world. All so that we can better love God and love our neighbors, both locally and globally.
