Day 5
Today was a day of joy for kids and adults. Each of our team member’s sponsored child from the Compassion Program was invited to come to an afternoon away for fun, games and food. Some of the children also brought family members.
Personally, I was thrilled that my sponsored child was able to come, since I’d only had a few minutes with him yesterday at the home visit.
There can be some awkward moments…you’re meeting a new person, you don’t speak the same language, there’s an age gap…but here is where the games help. Baseball, volleyball, soccer can all be played together, speaking both Spanish and English. We can laugh together at the water balloon games or the 5 legged races, while super soaker battles in the pool provide wild joy filled fun.
Today there was also time to share gifts, both physical gifts and gifts of prayer. To pray, in person, with a young man I’ve been praying for these many years was a blessing.
