Day 8

Well, here we are on our last day in the country. We’re a little tired, but with eyes that have been opened a little wider with an enhanced vision of what “church” ’means. Our visit today was to the Vida Nueva church and school in a slightly more challenging barrio. This church has gained the respect and admiration of other evangelicals and government critics due to their persistence, patience, and endurance while providing social, physical, educational, and jurisdictional services to the greater community. We attended a wonderful performance by high school students in celebration of the national holiday, then lunch and a presentation of their journey to grow within the community from a small room, an aspiring water purification project to a multi functional K-High School, gymnasium, auditorium, sports facility, adult activities center and of course, the church worship event center. We then were transported to the Colonial City, where the group congregated for ice cream before diverging into various activities, including shopping for gifts, touring historic buildings, or just hanging out in the plaza. We’ll spend our last evening in the Colonial City for an amazing dinner in the Grand Plaza’s restaurant row and will conclude our time later on the rooftop terrace for a time of song and sharing. Sorry that our time here has come to an end. We will miss our Dominican family but will share our joyful moments and memories with our church family when we return.
