Taking Off the Rose-Colored Glasses

After I sent the last blog post, I realized I had painted too rosy a picture of the situation here and thought I would set the record straight. While it’s true, a large group of our Safe House Family is indeed safe in Thailand, I got so wrapped up in the excitement of the new house, that I became distracted from those who remain at the original house in Myanmar (and cannot come at this time because they don’t have the documents needed to cross the border). The civil war is still very much raging in Myanmar and the danger of either being trafficked or (for boys) being snatched by the military and forced into service is a true threat. We celebrate the joy of being with many of the Safe House residents who are with us here in Thailand while continuing the fight for safety and freedom for those who are not.

But, while we are here, we are taking every opportunity for fellowship and frivolity, and yesterday the fun came in the form of playing rounds and rounds of dominoes and other games, coloring pictures, eating together, singing, praying, and dancing. For now, those things are a balm to our souls. Thank you, Jesus for laughter, joy and celebratory ice cream cake!
